Artifacts, Assets & R&D

Charging complexity

00: The Logical Anchor [TRL9]

Mass-produced since 1980, rare TRL9 item in the lab. Used to calibrate spatial logic. Proof that complex systems are solvable one layer at a time.

Atmospheric Sensor

01: Atmospheric Precision [~TRL4]

Industrial-grade barometric sensing using Bosch BME280/ESP32 architecture. Specialized for niche prosumer and industrial environmental monitoring.

GNSS Prototype

02: cm level precision GNSS [~TRL5/6]

Developing high-precision geospatial assets tailored for forestry and autonomous infrastructure mapping.

LoRa Trap

03: LoRa Trapping Sensor [~TRL5]

Wildlife trapping require regular, physically demanding site visits, often over several kilometers of challenging terrain. Many of these trips result in discovering an inactive trap. We prototyped LoRa sensor network to remotely monitor trap status.

Prototyping services

The lab that built the artifacts above is open for your hardware idea: from concept to a working bench or field prototype. The work goes in small steps, and you can stop after any of them.

Feasibility review

I check requirements, architecture and parts list (BOM) before money goes into hardware: single-sourced parts, power and thermal budget, radio and certification triggers. You get a written assessment and a go / no-go.

Proof of concept

Development boards and breakouts on the bench, to test the one assumption the idea depends on.

Prototype

Custom PCB, firmware and enclosure parts, assembled and tested in the lab.

Field test

Tested where it will be used: forest, yard, building. Results and known limits are documented.

Technical supervision

Your own team or a student builds the prototype; I set the architecture, review parts choices and design, and check the build at agreed points.

What the lab covers
  • Electronics: schematics and PCB layout in KiCad. Prototype boards milled in the lab or made by external PCB houses; assembled in the lab or by the PCB house.
  • Firmware: ESP32 family and classic Arduino boards (ESP-IDF, Arduino, ESPHome, PlatformIO).
  • Positioning and radio: RTK GNSS (u-blox ZED-F9P), LoRa, nRF24L01, Wi-Fi / BLE.
  • Sensors and interfaces: environmental sensing, Modbus / RS-485, integration with building automation (openHAB).
  • Mechanics: CAD (Fusion 360, CadQuery), FDM 3D printing, CNC milling.
What I don't do
  • Series production. Small batches only.
  • Certification testing (CE, RED, EMC). That's done at accredited labs; I prepare the design for it.
  • Many projects at once. rtk4 is a one-person lab: you talk directly to the engineer, and the queue is short but real.

Send a short description of the idea, its constraints (size, power, environment) and timeline to jtu@rtk4.lv.

The rtk4 Logic

We bridge the gap between complex software logic and high-precision physical hardware. With 20+ years of ICT experience, we build Intellectual Property (IP) designed for licensing in the B2B and B2B2C markets.
